Scissors and shears make cuts using a pair of single-edged blades that swing open and closed on a pivot screw. The blades create shearing force to cut through materials. Scissors cut paper, film, plastic sheets, and other thin materials.

All-Metal Offset Scissors
These all-metal scissors withstand heavier use than plastic-handle scissors. Also called bent scissors, their offset handles angle from the blades and set the blades flush against surfaces to aid straight cuts. Rings on the handles provide a grip to operate the scissors and help protect fingers from the blades.
