Order LookupCentering & Marking Punches
Available9 products
Centering and marking punches make an indentation that marks the spot to drill a hole in a workpiece. This starting point guides drill bits to improve the quality of drilled holes and prevent bits from drifting and marring surfaces. Centering and marking punches are commonly used in metalworking, crafting, and other tasks that require accurate holes.
Tip Size
Centering Punches
Centering punches make larger indentations and mark harder materials than prick punches. They are sometimes used to enlarge small indentations. Centering punches are typically struck on their shank to make the mark.

Transfer Punches
Transfer punches allow copying of hole sizes from a part, pattern, or template onto a workpiece. Their body diameter is selected to match the diameter of the intended hole, and they are tapped lightly to mark the hole center with their pointed tip. They are followed up with a center punch to deepen the indentation before drilling. Transfer punches are used for applications such as seating tool knobs on machinery, mounting tools to worktables, and creating jigs.

Prick Punch Sets
These sets include multiple prick punches in different tip sizes to make different-sized marks. The fine point of prick punches makes smaller indentations and marks softer materials than centering punches. They scribe reference marks and mark precise center points on wood, plastic, and thin sheet metal. Prick punches are struck lightly to prevent bending or other damage to delicate workpieces.
