They have multiple slots that hold tubing of different sizes and clamp it in place as the flaring cone presses into the end of the tube. Flaring tools create a funnel-shaped end (flare) that forms a tight joint with a flared tube fitting, eliminating the need for brazing or soldering. The flare height is adjusted by moving the tubing up or down in the slot before flaring. Tube flaring tools are commonly used to connect refrigerant tubing in mini-split systems.

Flaring creates a funnel-shaped end (flare) that forms a tight joint with a flared tube fitting, eliminating the need for brazing or soldering. Swaging enlarges the end of a tube so it slides over tubing of the same diameter to join two lengths without using fittings. The connection is then brazed to form a permanent joint.
