Rectangular Files
Rectangular files abrade material from level surfaces and linear edges. Also known as flat files, their two flat faces offer a wide area of contact to debur, shape, and smooth workpieces.
Tapered Single-Cut Rectangular Files
Single-cut teeth on both faces of these tapered, rectangular files run in diagonal rows and one direction to sharpen edges and produce smooth surface finishes. Tapered files get steadily narrower from the heel to the point for filing in wider or narrower bands.

Double-Cut & Single-Cut Rectangular Files
Double- and single-cut rectangular files provide two different cut styles for rapid stock removal and smoothing with a single tool. Also known as handy files, their double-cut face has two crisscrossing sets of diagonal rows of teeth that slant in opposite directions to remove material more quickly and leave a rougher finish than the single-cut face. The single-cut face has one set of diagonal rows of teeth running in the same direction to sharpen edges and produce smooth surface finishes.
