Bouffants are loose-fitting headwear worn over hair to prevent loose hair from falling into food, pharmaceuticals, and other substances to help ensure a clean and hygienic work area. They are made of breathable nonwoven fabric and have an elastic band to keep them in place. Veils cover the nose and mouth and tuck into a hood or coverall to keep the environment clean. They are not intended to provide respiratory protection. Cleanroom garments are assigned a cleanroom class to indicate which cleanrooms they can be used in. Lower classes (ISO 1) indicate a cleaner garment than higher classes (ISO 9).
