Hazardous materials (hazmat) rubber boots are worn over-the-sock to protect feet from nerve agents and extremely harsh and caustic chemicals, such as those encountered when responding to hazmat emergencies or when working in chemical processing. They are tested to meet NFPA 1991 (Edition 2016) standards for vapor-protective ensembles for hazardous materials emergencies. Hazmat boots are generally worn with other protective equipment.
