Pole climbers are worn on the legs and feet and are used together with lineman belts, pole-climbing straps, and positioning lanyards to help workers climb up and down utility poles during repair and maintenance tasks. They have a spike, called a gaff, near the ankle that digs into a utility pole to provide support for a worker while climbing, descending, or positioning him or herself on the pole.
