Safety harnesses for positioning and confined spaces prevent workers working at height from falling. They have one D-ring on the upper back, two or more D-rings on the hip straps, and two D-rings on the shoulder straps. The shoulder D-rings connect to a lanyard spreader that distributes force evenly across the body as the wearer is raised or lowered. They also provide extra connection points for rescue or extraction when the back (dorsal) D-ring cannot be reached. The hip D-rings connect to positioning and restraint lanyards that help keep the wearer positioned correctly while working at heights, leaving hands free and reducing the energy it takes to stay in place. The back D-ring connects to a self-retracting lifeline or shock-absorbing lanyard that attaches to a secure anchor point.
