Gasoline-Powered Blowers for Confined Spaces

Maximum flow in free air is the volume of air the blower can move in one minute, measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). The number of air exchanges per hour (ACH) required for the space and the volume of the space (measured in cubic feet) determine the CFM rating needed for the space.

The formula to determine the required CFM is: (ACH x volume of confined space) divided by 60 minutes. For example, for a 12,000 cubic ft confined space that requires 6 changes of air per hour, multiply 12,000 by 6 then divide by 60 to get 1,200. This means the blower needed for the space should be at least 1,200 CFM.

Note that other factors (such as duct length or configuration and the shape of the space) also affect the size of the blower needed. Multiple blowers can also be used together to meet minimum air flow requirements.
