Air excavation tools function like larger, more powerful air guns and deliver a high-pressure airstream to remove soil and debris, especially in areas where shovels and backhoes may damage buried utility lines. They connect to a compatible compressed air supply and are commonly used to dig trenches for new underground lines, uncover buried lines to make repairs, clean out valve boxes, and clear cracks and joints in pavement before sealing. Their long barrel has a nozzle at one end to focus air into a high-speed jet and a handle at the other end to hold the tool. A lever trigger in the handle allows users to control airflow while gripping the tool. These pneumatic excavators accept compatible barrel extensions to increase reach and compatible nozzles to modify airflow.
