Paint Thinners

Available34 products
Paint thinners reduce the viscosity of paint to prepare it for use with a sprayer, to clean brushes and surfaces after a paint job, or to thin out paint that has become too thick.

General Purpose Paint Thinners

General Purpose Paint Thinners
Paint thinners are solvents used to thin or reduce the viscosity of paints to prepare them for spray application or to clean up after their use. Solvents called paint thinners are usually mineral spirits having flash point at about 40 °C.

Mineral Spirits

Mineral Spirits
White spirit or mineral spirits, also known as turpentine substitutes, are petroleum-derived clear liquids used as a common organic solvent in cleaning up after painting. Mineral spirits are less expensive than turpentine and thin oil-based paints, stains and varnishes.

Lacquer Thinners

Lacquer Thinners
Lacquer thinners, also known as cellulose thinners, are a mixture of solvents able to dissolve a number of different resins or plastics used in lacquer finishes. These thinners clean tools and equipment after a lacquer project.

Base Type: Solvent

Xylene/Toluene

Xylene/Toluene
Xylene thinners are used for thinning paints, enamels, varnishes, and alkyd resins. Often specified as a thinner for specialty paints and coatings, xylene is highly flammable and is recommended for ventilated or exterior use. Toluene paint removers are fast-drying solvents for thinning oil-based paints, varnishes, enamels and alkyd resins. Paint manufacturers often specify toluene as a thinner for specialty coatings. Also known as Toluol.

Xylol Thinners

Xylol Thinners

Xylol (or xylene) thinners are used for thinning paints, enamels, varnishes, and alkyd resins. Often specified as a thinner for specialty paints and coatings, xylene is highly flammable and is recommended for ventilated or exterior use.

Water Immersion Coating Thinners

Water Immersion Coating Thinners
Immersion-grade coatings are protective layers that are applied to a material that will be subjected to water or liquid for an extended period of time. Thinners for immersion coatings reduce the viscosity of the coatings so that it can be spray-applied instead of brushed or rolled onto a surface. This is commonly done for surfaces that are not flat or are uneven.
