Ice Melting Compounds

Available6 products

Ice-melting compounds prevent the formation of ice and slush on driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, and other areas where slippery surfaces could injure people, cause vehicle accidents, or cause property damage. They come in two different forms: solid granules for use with a spreader or liquid for use with a sprayer. Their chemical formulation determines their lowest working temperature and their compatibility with the treated surface, the surrounding landscape, vehicles, equipment, and other nearby surfaces.

Granular Ice Melt

Granular Ice Melt

Granular ice melt compounds melt ice and packed snow at temperatures as low as -20° F, depending on their chemical composition. They use a chemical reaction to melt the snow or ice, which is effective against harder snow and ice but can take longer than liquid compounds in extremely cold conditions. They are applied by hand or using a spreader but are prone to being scattered or thrown from surfaces by vehicle and foot traffic.

Liquid Ice Melt

Liquid Ice Melt

Liquid ice melt compounds are solutions that can be applied by hand with a sprayer or with machinery. They are fast acting, compared to granular ice melt compounds, and can be applied before the accumulation of ice and snow as a pre-treatment to prevent it from building up. While they start working faster than granular compounds, they are much more susceptible to dilution from rain and snowmelt runoff. This makes them ideal for pre-treating surfaces and light-duty applications.
