Split-Phase NEMA Frame General Purpose AC Motors

Available2 products
Split-phase NEMA frame general purpose AC motors have a main winding and an auxiliary winding for use in low-to-medium-torque applications such as for blowers, fans, and small conveyors. Motors are single-phase and have a lower starting torque and are less energy efficient compared to capacitor-start/capacitor-run, and three-phase motors. They have a less powerful, smooth, and softer startup for use in HVAC equipment that must gradually come up to speed. Models have NEMA frame construction with standard dimensions that allow drop-in replacement of motors from multiple suppliers with no modifications required to existing installations. Motors usually have no protrusions (such as capacitor covers) from the motor shell except where a conduit box is used to house the electrical connections between the external power cables and the internal electrical wiring of the motor. The frame size for these motors is shown on the motor nameplate under “Frame” or “FR”.

NEMA 42 Frame Split-Phase General Purpose AC Motors

NEMA 42 Frame Split-Phase General Purpose AC Motors
NEMA 42 frame split-phase general purpose AC motors have a standard 3/8" diameter and a 1-1/8" length shaft whose center is 2-5/8" above the base mounting surface. Variations to the frame's standard dimensions and design are indicated by a letter designation following the frame number. These frame standards and letter designations are defined by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). NEMA 42 frame motors are supplied with a relay switch instead of a centrifugal switch.

NEMA 48 Frame Split-Phase General Purpose AC Motors

NEMA 48 Frame Split-Phase General Purpose AC Motors
NEMA 48 frame split-phase general purpose AC motors have a standard 1/2" diameter, 1-1/2" length shaft whose center is 3" above the base mounting surface. Variations to the frame's standard dimensions and design are indicated by a letter designation following the frame number, such as 48Z or 48Y. The letter “Z” indicates that the frame has a nonstandard shaft, and “Y” indicates a nonstandard mounting. These frame standards and letter designations are defined by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).
