High-Speed Steel Straight-Flute Hand Taps

High-speed steel taps provide good wear resistance in general purpose tapping applications in a range of materials. Also called hand taps, high-speed steel straight-flute taps are turned with a tap wrench to create or repair internal threads in blind holes and through holes. As the taps are rotated into a hole to create threads, the chips move into the flutes but are not evacuated.
The bright finish on these taps provides a smooth, polished surface.

TiN-Coated High-Speed Steel Straight-Flute Taps
The TiN coating on these taps protects them from wear and allows them to be used at higher speeds than taps with a bright finish. Non-coolant-through taps do not have coolant holes, so a separate hose is required to bring coolant to the cutting area if it is needed.
Black-Oxide High-Speed Steel Straight Flute Taps
The black-oxide finish on these taps retains lubricants to improve the taps' wear resistance and chip flow. Black-oxide taps should only be used on ferrous metals.
TiCN-Coated High-Speed Steel Straight-Flute Taps
The TiCN coating on these taps protects them from wear and is harder and more wear-resistant than a TiN coating. Non-coolant-through taps do not have coolant holes, so a separate hose is required to bring coolant to the cutting area if it is needed.
The left-hand taps in these sets are used to create internal threads in holes in applications where left-hand fasteners will be installed in the holes.
