Order LookupPowdered-Metal Straight-Flute Hand Taps
Available11 products
Powdered-metal taps are tougher and less likely to break than cobalt and high-speed steel taps. They are used for tapping highly abrasive materials such as high-silicon aluminum. Also called hand taps, powdered-metal straight-flute taps are turned with a tap wrench to create or repair internal threads in blind holes and through holes. As the taps are rotated into a hole to create threads, the chips move into the flutes but are not evacuated.

TiCN-Coated Powdered-Metal with High-Speed Steel Straight-Flute Taps
The TiCN coating on these taps protects them from wear and is harder and more wear-resistant than a TiN coating. Non-coolant-through taps do not have coolant holes, so a separate hose is required to bring coolant to the cutting area if it is needed. Powdered-metal with high-speed steel taps are an economical alternative to powdered-metal with cobalt taps.

TiCN-Coated Coolant-Through DIN/ANSI Powdered-Metal with High-Speed Steel Straight-Flute Taps
These taps meet DIN length standards and have a longer overall length than taps that meet ISO, ANSI, and JIS length standards. They also meet ANSI shank standards, which means they measure their shank diameter in inches and fit in standard tools used in the U.S. The TiCN coating on these taps protects them from wear and is harder and more wear-resistant than a TiN coating. Coolant-through taps have holes that allow coolant to flow to their tip to reduce heat and friction during threading tasks. Powdered-metal with high-speed steel taps are an economical alternative to powdered-metal with cobalt taps.
