Order LookupCobalt Straight-Flute Hand Taps
Available52 products
Cobalt taps are harder and more wear-resistant when tapping hard materials at high speeds than high-speed steel taps. Straight-flute taps are used to create or repair internal threads in blind holes and through holes. As the taps are rotated into a hole to create threads, the chips move into the flutes but are not evacuated. Sometimes called hand taps, cobalt straight-flute taps are typically turned with a tap wrench to create or repair internal threads in blind holes and through holes.

Black-Oxide Cobalt Straight Flute Taps
The black-oxide finish on these taps retains lubricants to improve the taps' wear resistance and chip flow. Black-oxide taps should only be used on ferrous metals.

TiCN-Coated Cobalt Straight-Flute Taps
The TiCN coating on these taps protects them from wear and is harder and more wear-resistant than a TiN coating. Non-coolant-through taps do not have coolant holes, so a separate hose is required to bring coolant to the cutting area if it is needed.

TiN-Coated Coolant-Through Cobalt Straight-Flute Taps
The TiN coating on these taps protects them from wear and allows them to be used at higher speeds than taps with a bright finish. Coolant-through taps have holes that allow coolant to flow to their tip to reduce heat and friction during threading tasks.

TiCN-Coated DIN/ANSI Coolant-Through Cobalt Straight-Flute Taps
The TiCN coating on these taps protects them from wear and is harder and more wear-resistant than a TiN coating. These taps meet DIN length standards and have a longer overall length than taps that meet ISO, ANSI, and JIS length standards. They also meet ANSI shank standards, which means they measure their shank diameter in inches and fit in standard tools used in the U.S. Coolant-through taps have holes that allow coolant to flow to their tip to reduce heat and friction during threading tasks.
