Carbide Straight-Flute Machine Taps

Available7 products
Carbide straight-flute taps are harder than high-speed steel, cobalt, and powdered-metal straight-flute taps. They provide excellent heat resistance and can be used for tapping hard materials at high speeds. Straight-flute taps are used to create or repair internal threads in blind holes and through holes. As the taps are rotated into a hole to create threads, the chips move into the flutes but are not evacuated. Carbide straight-flute taps are installed into a toolholder on a machine for machine tapping applications.

TiAlN-Coated Carbide Straight-Flute Taps

TiAlN-Coated Carbide Straight-Flute Taps
The TiAlN coating on these taps withstands high temperatures and protects the taps from wear. It allows the taps to be used at faster speeds than taps with a bright finish, and it resists cracks and oxidation better than TiN or TiCN coatings. Non-coolant-through taps do not have coolant holes, so a separate hose is required to bring coolant to the cutting area if it is needed.

TiAlN-Coated Coolant Through Carbide Straight Flute Taps

TiAlN-Coated Coolant Through Carbide Straight Flute Taps
The TiAlN coating on these taps withstands high temperatures and protects the taps from wear. It allows the taps to be used at faster speeds than taps with a bright finish, and it resists cracks and oxidation better than TiN or TiCN coatings. Coolant-through taps have holes that allow coolant to flow to their tip to reduce heat and friction during threading tasks.
