High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Steel & Stainless Steel

Available40 products
These high-performance spiral-point taps provide better precision and accuracy than general purpose spiral-point taps when used for threading holes in steel and/or stainless steel. High-performance spiral-point taps are harder and more wear-resistant than general purpose spiral-point taps. The taps have straight flutes with a spiral point that pushes chips in front of the tap as it moves into a hole and out the other side, eventually forcing the chips out of the hole. They create internal threads in through holes and are installed into a toolholder on a machine such as a lathe or CNC machine to operate.

Unified Thread Standard High-Performance Bright Finish Spiral-Point Taps for Steel

Unified Thread Standard High-Performance Bright Finish Spiral-Point Taps for Steel
These taps have a unified thread standard and are designed for tapping steel. UN coarse (UNC) taps have fewer threads per inch than UN fine (UNF) taps. Compared to UNF taps, UNC taps perform better in threading applications on brittle materials and are less likely to cross thread. Coarse threads can also withstand more physical abuse than fine threads. UNF taps have more threads per inch than UNC taps. Compared to UNC taps, UNF taps perform better in threading applications on thin-walled workpieces and hard materials. Fine threads provide more tensile strength and shear strength than coarse threads. The bright finish on these taps provides a smooth, polished surface.

TiN-Coated High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Steel

TiN-Coated High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Steel
These taps are designed for tapping steel. They have a TiN coating that protects them from wear and allows them to be used at higher speeds than taps with a bright finish.

Black-Oxide Finish High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Steel & Stainless Steel

Black-Oxide Finish High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Steel & Stainless Steel
These taps are designed for tapping steel and stainless steel. They have a black-oxide finish that retains lubricants to improve the taps' wear resistance and chip flow.

TiCN-Coated DIN/ANSI High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Steel & Stainless Steel

TiCN-Coated DIN/ANSI High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Steel & Stainless Steel
These taps are designed for tapping steel and stainless steel. They have a TiCN coating that protects them from wear and is harder and more wear-resistant than a TiN coating. These taps meet DIN length standards and have a longer overall length than taps that meet ISO, ANSI, and JIS length standards. They also meet ANSI shank standards, which means they measure their shank diameter in inches and fit in standard tools used in the U.S.

TiCN-Coated Coolant-Through DIN/ANSI High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Steel & Stainless Steel

TiCN-Coated Coolant-Through DIN/ANSI High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Steel & Stainless Steel
Coolant-through taps have holes that allow coolant to flow to their tip to reduce heat and friction during threading tasks.

Oversized Bright Finish High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Steel

Oversized Bright Finish High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Steel
These taps are designed for tapping steel. Oversized taps have a slightly larger pitch diameter than standard taps. They are used to make threads in a hole before a coating or treatment is applied to the hole. Once the coating or treatment is applied, the threads will be reduced to the standard pitch diameter. The bright finish on these taps provides a smooth, polished surface.

Hardlube-Coated High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Stainless Steel

Hardlube-Coated High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Stainless Steel
These taps are designed for tapping stainless steel. They have a hardlube coating that protects them from wear. Sometimes called hardslick, hardlube has an inner layer of titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) and an outer layer of tungsten carbide/carbon (WC/C). The TiAlN layer withstands high temperatures and protects the taps from wear. The WC/C layer has a low coefficient of friction and helps prevent chips from sticking to the tool in dry-machining applications.
