High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials

Available659 products
These high-performance spiral-point taps can be used for threading multiple materials. They are harder and more wear-resistant than general purpose spiral-point taps, and they provide better precision and accuracy than general purpose taps. The taps have straight flutes with a spiral point that pushes chips in front of the tap as it moves into a hole and out the other side, eventually forcing the chips out of the hole. They create internal threads in through holes and are installed into a toolholder on a machine such as a lathe or CNC machine to operate.
Primary Material Application

Unified Thread Standard Black-Oxide Finish High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials

Unified Thread Standard Black-Oxide Finish High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials
These taps have a unified thread standard. UN coarse (UNC) taps have fewer threads per inch than UN fine (UNF) taps. Compared to UNF taps, UNC taps perform better in threading applications on brittle materials and are less likely to cross thread. Coarse threads can also withstand more physical abuse than fine threads. UNF taps have more threads per inch than UNC taps. Compared to UNC taps, UNF taps perform better in threading applications on thin-walled workpieces and hard materials. Fine threads provide more tensile strength and shear strength than coarse threads. The black-oxide finish on these taps retains lubricants to improve the taps' wear resistance and chip flow. Black-oxide taps should only be used on ferrous metals.

Metric Black-Oxide Finish High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials

Metric Black-Oxide Finish High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials
These taps come in standard sizes expressed in millimeters. The black-oxide finish on these taps retains lubricants to improve the taps' wear resistance and chip flow. Black-oxide taps should only be used on ferrous metals.

TiCN-Coated High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials

TiCN-Coated High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials
The TiCN coating on these taps protects them from wear and is harder and more wear-resistant than a TiN coating.

Unified Thread Standard Bright Finish High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials

Compared to UNC taps, UNF taps perform better in threading applications on thin-walled workpieces and hard materials. Fine threads provide more tensile strength and shear strength than coarse threads. The bright finish on these taps provides a smooth, polished surface.

TiN-Coated High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials

TiN-Coated High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials
The TiN coating on these taps protects them from wear and allows them to be used at higher speeds than taps with a bright finish.

TiAlN-Coated DIN/ANSI High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials

TiAlN-Coated DIN/ANSI High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials
The TiAlN coating on these taps withstands high temperatures and protects the taps from wear. It allows the taps to be used at faster speeds than taps with a bright finish, and it resists cracks and oxidation better than TiN or TiCN coatings. These taps meet DIN length standards and have a longer overall length than taps that meet ISO, ANSI, and JIS length standards. They also meet ANSI shank standards, which means they measure their shank diameter in inches and fit in standard tools used in the U.S.

THL-Coated High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials

THL-Coated High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials
The THL coating on these taps protects them from wear and provides better chip formation than TiN and TiCN coatings. THL-coated taps are suitable for threading high-speed steel, cast iron, and aluminum alloys, and they can be used with or without coolant.

TiCN-Coated Coolant-Through DIN/ANSI High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials

TiCN-Coated Coolant-Through DIN/ANSI High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials
The TiCN coating on these taps protects them from wear and is harder and more wear-resistant than a TiN coating. These taps meet DIN length standards and have a longer overall length than taps that meet ISO, ANSI, and JIS length standards. They also meet ANSI shank standards, which means they measure their shank diameter in inches and fit in standard tools used in the U.S. Coolant-through taps have holes that allow coolant to flow to their tip to reduce heat and friction during threading tasks.

Oversized Black-Oxide Finish High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials

Oversized Black-Oxide Finish High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials
Oversized taps have a slightly larger pitch diameter than standard taps. They are used to make threads in a hole before a coating or treatment is applied to the hole. Once the coating or treatment is applied, the threads will be reduced to the standard pitch diameter. The black-oxide finish on these taps retains lubricants to improve the taps' wear resistance and chip flow. Black-oxide taps should only be used on ferrous metals.
