Order LookupHigh-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials
Available2 products
These high-performance spiral-point taps can be used for threading multiple materials. They are harder and more wear-resistant than general purpose spiral-point taps, and they provide better precision and accuracy than general purpose taps. The taps have straight flutes with a spiral point that pushes chips in front of the tap as it moves into a hole and out the other side, eventually forcing the chips out of the hole. They create internal threads in through holes and are installed into a toolholder on a machine such as a lathe or CNC machine to operate.

Unified Thread Standard Black-Oxide Finish High-Performance Spiral-Point Taps for Multiple Materials
These taps have a unified thread standard. UN coarse (UNC) taps have fewer threads per inch than UN fine (UNF) taps. Compared to UNF taps, UNC taps perform better in threading applications on brittle materials and are less likely to cross thread. Coarse threads can also withstand more physical abuse than fine threads. UNF taps have more threads per inch than UNC taps. Compared to UNC taps, UNF taps perform better in threading applications on thin-walled workpieces and hard materials. Fine threads provide more tensile strength and shear strength than coarse threads. The black-oxide finish on these taps retains lubricants to improve the taps' wear resistance and chip flow. Black-oxide taps should only be used on ferrous metals.
