General Purpose Spiral-Point Taps

Available23 products
General purpose spiral-point taps are intended for threading a wide range of materials. The taps have straight flutes with a spiral point that pushes chips in front of the tap as it moves into a hole and out the other side, eventually forcing the chips out of the hole. They create internal threads in through holes and are installed into a toolholder on a machine such as a lathe or CNC machine to operate.

UN Coarse Bright Finish General Purpose Spiral-Point Taps

UN Coarse Bright Finish General Purpose Spiral-Point Taps
UN coarse (UNC) taps have fewer threads per inch than UN fine (UNF) taps. Compared to UNF taps, UNC taps perform better in threading applications on brittle materials and are less likely to cross thread. Coarse threads can also withstand more physical abuse than fine threads. The bright finish on these taps provides a smooth, polished surface.

TiN-Coated General Purpose Spiral-Point Taps

TiN-Coated General Purpose Spiral-Point Taps
The TiN coating on these taps protects them from wear and allows them to be used at higher speeds than taps with a bright finish.

Black-Oxide Finish General Purpose Spiral-Point Taps

Black-Oxide Finish General Purpose Spiral-Point Taps
The black-oxide finish on these taps retains lubricants to improve the taps' wear resistance and chip flow. Black-oxide taps should only be used on ferrous metals.

Hardlube-Coated DIN/ANSI General Purpose Spiral-Point Taps

Hardlube-Coated DIN/ANSI General Purpose Spiral-Point Taps
The hardlube coating on these taps protects them from wear. Sometimes called hardslick, it has an inner layer of titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) and an outer layer of tungsten carbide/carbon (WC/C). The TiAlN layer withstands high temperatures and protects the taps from wear. The WC/C layer has a low coefficient of friction and helps prevent chips from sticking to the tool in dry-machining applications. These taps meet DIN length standards and have a longer overall length than taps that meet ISO, ANSI, and JIS length standards. They also meet ANSI shank standards, which means they measure their shank diameter in inches and fit in standard tools used in the U.S.

TiCN-Coated General Purpose Spiral-Point Taps

TiCN-Coated General Purpose Spiral-Point Taps
The TiCN coating on these taps protects them from wear and is harder and more wear-resistant than a TiN coating.
