General Purpose Spiral-Flute Taps

General purpose spiral-flute taps are intended for threading a wide range of materials. The taps have spiral flutes that pull chips out and away from the hole as the tap moves into the hole to create threads, which helps prevent chips from packing in the hole. They create internal threads in blind holes and are installed into a toolholder on a machine such as a lathe or CNC machine to operate.

Oversized Black-Oxide Finish General Purpose Spiral-Flute Taps
Oversized taps have a slightly larger pitch diameter than standard taps. They are used to make threads in a hole before a coating or treatment is applied to the hole. Once the coating or treatment is applied, the threads will be reduced to the standard pitch diameter. The black-oxide finish on these taps retains lubricants to improve the taps' wear resistance and chip flow. Black-oxide taps should only be used on ferrous metals.
