Micrometer calibrating standards and sets are precision ground rods of varying lengths with fixed dimensions used to determine if the micrometer is accurate. To calibrate micrometers, users actuate the micrometer thimble and use the standard as the object being measured. This will confirm that the vernier or digital reading matches the exact dimension of the standard.

These individual setting standards are precision ground steel rods used to check and set outside micrometers. Also known as setting rods, they have precision ground and lapped flat or spherical ends to ensure only single points contact either measuring face of the micrometer. Rods may be plain or have one or more insulated handles to minimize any thermal expansion from the heat from an operator’s hand.

Micrometer Calibrating Standard Sets
These steel setting standard kits contain precision ground rods used to set micrometers to a specific measurement and to check that the micrometer is accurate. Also known as setting rods, they have precision ground and lapped flat or spherical ends to ensure only single points contact either measuring face of the micrometer. These rods may be plain or have one or more insulated handles to minimize any thermal expansion from the heat of the operator’s hand. These sets consist of varying lengths of standards in increments of 1” or 25mm.
