Mechanical micrometer heads are used to adjust and gauge positions of machine tools, fixtures, and electronic equipment. They consist of a main body with a single spindle that has a flat or spherical end. These heads are mounted to a machine or tool and measurements are read directly on the graduated barrel to make sure the measurement is accurate and that the machine or workpiece is positioned correctly.

The spindles on these mechanical micrometer heads do not rotate, so no twisting action is exerted on the workpiece. These micrometer heads have a main body with a single spindle that has a spherical face. Non-rotating spindles are commonly used for gauging soft or elastic materials where scratches on the work surface can’t be tolerated. They also reduce and spindle wear.
