Digital drop indicators, also called electronic indicators, have a linear encoder with an LCD fixed to a plunger-style stem with a contact point on the end. When the contact point touches the workpiece or feature, the up-and-down movement will be translated to a numeric value on the digital display. These indicators are commonly used for setup and calibration applications on the shop floor and other applications where measuring and amplifying slight variations is essential. They’re also used to measure deck clearances, crankshaft thrust and straightness, lifter travel and other measurements that involve the distance between two surfaces. Digital indicators have SPC output capability for hands-free data recording and have features such as Inch/Metric, data hold, and absolute positioning.
