Coordinate measuring machine (CMM) styli, extensions, and accessories combine with probes to measure the physical dimensions of objects for precise relative positioning and tolerance analysis. Styli consist of a tip, most commonly a ball shape, and a stem that attaches to a compatible probe. The tip directly contacts the component it's measuring. The rigidity of the stylus and the maximum sphericity of the tip are critical for accurate measurements. CMMs are commonly used for precise measurement and inspection applications in manufacturing and assembly processes.
