Floor stand drill presses provide a long spindle travel to drill through thicker metal workpieces and create larger-diameter holes than benchtop drill presses. These stationary drilling machines rotate bits held in a vertically mounted drill head and drive them downward to make holes in workpieces. They support work on the table below the drill head, and they maintain consistent alignment to create more accurate holes than handheld drills. Depending on the type of bits used, these shop drills may ream, countersink, counterbore, tap, or perform other holemaking operations.
