Letter

Letter-size drill bits are each assigned a trade letter size that indicates their compatibility with other bits that have the same trade letter size. The larger the letter size, the larger the drill bit.

Wire

Wire-size drill bits are each assigned a wire size that matches an American Wire Gauge (AWG) size, which helps ensure compatibility when inserting wires into holes made by the bits. The larger the wire size, the smaller the drill bit.
