Spectrophotometers use various wavelengths of light to identify sample compositions. Light from the spectrophotometer's lamp is diffracted by an internal grate and passed through the sample, and the detector measures how much light of each wavelength is absorbed or transmitted through the sample.

These accessories supplement the function of spectrophotometers, replace worn parts such as power cords and lamps, and carry and organize the spectrophotometer and its components.
