Fire & Smoke Dampers
Fire and smoke dampers automatically close when temperatures reach a certain point to prevent the spread of smoke and fire through the duct system. They use a fusible link that melts above a specific temperature, releasing a spring-loaded damper or blade that blocks smoke and fire from moving through the duct.
Rectangular Fire Dampers
Rectangular fire dampers have a fusible link that triggers above a specific temperature and closes shut using spring-loaded blades or gates. They eliminate the spread of fire through the HVAC systems.
Static
Static dampers will close in the event of a fire but cannot overcome the blower airflow. If the HVAC system shuts down during a fire, these are suitable. If the HVAC system stays active during a fire, dynamic fire dampers are recommended.

Rectangular Motorized Smoke Dampers
Rectangular motorized smoke dampers close and seal HVAC ducts when their power supply is interrupted. These units feature an electric actuator that holds the damper open when electrical power is connected. This actuator swings closed automatically when it loses power and blocks the spread of smoke through the ducts.
