Reverse Service

Reverse service electrical devices supply power to "dead" outlets not connected to an electrical source. They can only be mated with other reverse service devices and are commonly used in generator applications.

Hazardous Location Specification

This rating system classifies electrical equipment by which hazardous locations they can safely operate in. Specifically, areas where the possibility of fire or explosion hazards may exist under normal or abnormal conditions because of the presence of flammable, combustible or ignitable gases, vapors, liquids, dust, or fibers/flyings. These ratings are defined by the National Electrical Code (NEC) standards and based on classes, divisions, and groups. Class specifies the type of explosive or ignitable substance present in the atmosphere. Division defines the likelihood of the hazardous material being present in an explosive ignitable concentration. Groups are divisions that describe the type of hazardous material in the atmosphere.

Class I, Div 1 and 2, Group A, B, C, D are for hazardous locations where flammable gases or vapors may be present during normal operations, normally confined, or not present in ignitable concentrations. Class I hazards are commonly found in petroleum refineries, fuel dispensaries, sewage treatment plants, and processes using chemicals, paints, coatings, or sealants. This rating indicates the electrical device is suitable for use with the following hazardous materials: Group A (acetylene), Group B (hydrogen, butadiene, ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, and acrolein), Group C (ethylene, cyclopropane, and ethyl ether), Group D (acetone, ammonia, benzene, butane, ethanol, gasoline, hexane, methane, methanol, naphtha, natural gas, propane, and toluene).

This rating indicates the electrical device is suitable for use with the following hazardous materials: Group F combustible dust (carbon black, charcoal, coal, and coke dust) and Group G combustible dust (chemicals, flour, grain, plastic, and wood).
Class III, Div 1 and 2 are for hazardous locations where ignitable fibers or flyings are present during normal operations, normally confined, or not present in ignitable concentrations. Class III hazards are commonly found in textile mills, lumber mills, and other plants with airborne fibers or sawdust.

This rating indicates a device's ability to handle electrical current in horsepower (HP). Horsepower is the measurement of current drawn from equipment like motors, pumps, or appliances at any moment. Electrical devices should have the same or a greater HP rating as the equipment they're powering.

Grounding Style

IEC ground using a dedicated ground connection. They feature nonconductive nylon housings that withstand heavy-duty industrial environments. The connectors feature a lockout hole in the plug shroud to secure them and prevent unauthorized access. Devices are color-coded for each specific voltage. They comply with the International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) 60309 standard.
Style 1 ground through their metal housings. The grounding path stays maintained until the connection is fully disengaged. They comply with the International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) 60309 standard.
Style 2 ground through their metal housings and a dedicated ground connection. Their grounding pins/sockets are larger than their current pins/sockets, and they make contact first and disconnect last to prevent electric shocks. Housing Material

Non-Metallic are lightweight and resist corrosion. They support nonmetallic sheathed cables, but because they don't conduct electricity, they cannot be used with metal-sheathed cables.
Metallic protect against impacts, withstand high temperatures, won't melt or warp, and support heavier weights than nonmetallic housings. They're compatible with metal-sheathed cables and conduit; however, they have sharp edges and require clamps or bushings to hold and protect nonmetallic sheathed cables from rubbing up against them and tearing.

IP Rating

IP (Ingress Protection) rating is a two-digit code that grades the ability of electrical plugs and receptacles to protect against dust and water. The first digit is the degree of protection from dust or solid objects. The second digit is the degree of protection from water. The higher the value of each digit, the greater the protection.

Not Rated refers to enclosures that have not been tested for ingress protection.
IP22 protects against contact with fingers or similar objects greater than 12.5mm. It protects against dripping water and direct sprays of water when the enclosure is tilted at any angle up to 15° from its normal position.
IP67 is dust-tight and withstands immersion in water for up to 30 minutes to a depth of 1m.
IP68 is dust-tight and withstands immersion in water for longer than 30 minutes to a depth of 1m or more as specified by the manufacturer.
IP69K is dust-tight and protects against high-pressure, hot-temperature water jets from any direction at close ranges. IP69K provides the highest ingress protection and is suitable for applications where regular washdowns, steam-cleaning, and sanitization procedures take place.

UL 94 Flammability Rating

The UL 94 flammability rating ranks plastics used inside devices or appliances according to how they burn in different orientations and their ability to extinguish or spread the flame.

HB this rating indicates that a horizontally oriented plastic part that is 3mm or thicker has a burn rate of less than 3" per minute and will stop burning before it reaches 5". This is the least flame-retardant rating.
V-0 this rating indicates that a vertically oriented plastic part will stop burning on its own within 10 seconds. Drips of flaming plastic are not allowed.
