Signal & Power Protection

Standard Protection indicates the electrical device is not protected against ground faults or excessive energy.
GFCI are required anywhere the receptacle is close to a water source, like bathrooms, kitchens, and garages. If they experience a ground fault, they will turn off the connection to help prevent shock and must be manually reset with a button on their front side.
Surge Protection absorbs excessive energy and sends it away through a connected ground wire to prevent it from reaching its connected circuit and causing damage to equipment.
Isolated Ground have separate grounding points to help reduce electromagnetic noise and protect sensitive electronic equipment like video and audio equipment, computers, and medical devices. They bring a dedicated ground wire to the receptacle from a grounding point. Isolated ground receptacles have red triangles on their face to indicate their isolated grounding receptacle.

Wire Connection Types

Screw Terminals have screws that tighten down on the bare ends of wires to secure and terminate connections.
Push In have ports where bare wires push into and secure with a built-in clamping mechanism.

Wire Connection Location

Side indicates that the wires attach on the side of the electrical device.
