Switch Type

3-Way have three terminals and pair with 3-way switches to control one circuit from two fixed positions. These switches are commonly used to control lights, fans, or fixtures from different sides of the room or at the top and bottom of stairs.
4-Way have four terminals that connect with 3- or 4-way switches to control one circuit from three or more fixed positions. These switches are commonly used to control lights, fans, or fixtures in large rooms and corridors.
Double Pole have four terminals and higher amp ratings than single-pole switches. They can control two separate 120V circuits or one 240V circuit for heavy loads like industrial equipment, appliances, and motors.
Double Pole/Double Throw have two incoming terminals and four output terminals to connect four different circuits but can only supply power to two circuits at a time. Double-pole switches have higher amp ratings than single-pole switches and can control two 120V circuits or one 240V circuit for heavy loads like industrial equipment, appliances, and motors.
Single Pole have two terminals that connect with one circuit. They're commonly used to control power to 120V devices like lights, fixtures, and outlets.
Single Pole/Double Throw have one incoming terminal and two output terminals to connect two different circuits but can only supply power to one circuit at a time.
