Locknuts fasten threaded heavy-wall RMC and medium-wall IMC metal conduit and connectors to an unthreaded opening in an electrical box or enclosure. They screw onto the end of the conduit or connector after it’s been inserted in the knockout, and have serrated teeth that grip the opening for a tight fit that prevents vibrations from loosening the connection.

These locknuts bond threaded IMC and RMC conduit and connectors inside electrical boxes. They’re used when grounding is required in an electrical box, but the box doesn’t have the appropriate ground terminations. These locknuts thread onto the end of a conduit or connector that’s been inserted into a knockout. Their serrated teeth grip the knockout and prevent vibrations that can loosen the connection. They also have a tab with a screw so a ground wire can be wrapped around and tightened down.
