These couplings have a piston that extends and retracts to compensate for length changes of unthreaded RMC and IMC conduit. They’re often used where there are large fluctuations in temperature, which can cause conduit to expand and contract. These couplings position onto the ends of two lengths of conduit and lock with the set screw to join them together.
