Fabric softeners and laundry additives work with detergents to produce specific results during the laundry cycle. Fabric softener liquids, dryer sheets, and balls soften fibers, reduce wrinkles, and reduce static. Bleach, detergent boosters, and odor eliminators remove dirt and stains, whiten whites, brighten colors, and remove unpleasant odors. Fabric softener sheets, or dryer sheets, keep fabrics soft, fragrant, wrinkle-free, and reduce static cling. Sheets are added to the dryer with wet laundry and are activated by heat and moisture. Fabric softener is distributed throughout the drying cycle, reducing friction that could otherwise lead to pilling, fuzz, and discoloration.
