Flex impact sockets, also known as universal impact sockets, are for use with impact power tools and can apply more torque than standard sockets in loosening and tightening fasteners. They are hinged in the middle and can rotate and accommodate most angles to ease access to fasteners in tight spaces that can’t be reached with a standard impact socket. Sockets have an enclosed head that fits around and grips the entire head of the fastener so the socket won’t slip off. They are used with impact power wrenches that have a square nub called the drive that fits into the same size drive end of the socket for secure attachment to the drive tool. The sockets are constructed to securely attach to the impact tool so the socket won’t fly off the drive of the impact wrench during use. They can handle the higher torque and vibration generated by an impact power wrench when turning a fastener.
