F1 graded felt is the most durable and dense industrial felt available. It absorbs and retains low-viscosity oils and is suitable for applications exposed to continual abrasion, friction, impact, or pressure. Typical uses include door bumpers, washers, wicks, and polishing blocks.

F3 graded felt is not as durable or dense as F1 graded felt. It has high vibration absorption and abrasion resistance qualities, which makes it suitable for aircraft, automobile, and machine component applications, such as vibration mounts, bumpers, oil seals, gaskets, and precision lubrication wicking.

F5 graded felt is not as dense or hard as F1 and F3 graded felt, but is often preferred for seat pads, floor mats, or other solid cushioning applications. It can also be used for vibration mountings, grease retainer washers, wipers, wicks, and dust shields.

F7 graded felt has high density and is preferred for applications exposed to continual impact, pressure, or movement. It absorbs and retains oils and is often used for grease retainer washers, wipers, and wicks. Other applications include dust shields for automotive parts and vibration mountings.

Synthetic polyester firm felt is commonly used for weatherstripping, pads, wipers, and packing.

Synthetic aramid firm felt is lightweight, durable, and flame-resistant. This cut-resistant felt is often used for protective clothing, electrical insulation, automotive and aerospace parts and components, and other applications involving elevated temperatures.
