Air-powered scarifiers dig their cutter bundles into surfaces to remove thick epoxies, cement overlays, rust, paint, and other coatings from concrete, metals, and wood. Multi-tooth cutting wheels (flails) on the cutter bundles rotate at high speed and chip away material more aggressively than grinders and with greater control than sandblasting. Scarifiers leave a rough, grooved surface to prepare for recoating. These pneumatic units operate on compressed air and contain few moving parts, so they are lightweight to ease handling, run cool for a long lifespan, and require minimal maintenance.
